Jim Thompson clinches win at Retail Asia Awards for The Iconic Store

The store offers over 6,000 products and collaborative projects whilst getting to explore the history of its aesthete founder.

Thai silk brand Jim Thompson bagged the Store Retail Initiative of the Year - Thailand category win at the recently held Retail Asia Awards for the success of The Iconic Store.

Visually stunning inside and out, the Iconic Store offers visitors an exciting retail experience. Visitors can explore the complete range of menswear, womenswear, bags, knick-knacks, accessories, homeware, and exclusive collections only available at this location. Spread over two levels with a winding staircase, customers can browse through over 6,000 products and other collaborative projects.

The interior, inspired by the reddish facade of Jim Thompson’s traditional Thai houses, is in cinnabar hues. Every section of the store, from the earth-toned decor to the free-flowing, undulating walls, has been designed to highlight the opulent colours of the silks and the founder's passion and deep respect for craftsmanship and the unique traditions of Thailand.

Beyond the beguiling retail decoration that’s unique to the brand, the space of Jim Thompson Iconic Store has been designed to seamlessly connect to the Jim Thompson House Museum, Museum About the Man and the Home Furnishing Exhibition.

The Jim Thompson House Museum is a collection of six teak houses sourced by Jim Thompson from all over Thailand. His residence also became home to an extensive collection of Southeast Asian art. Thompson’s home was carefully preserved after his disappearance in Malaysia in 1967 and was turned into a museum which guests can visit today and explore with expert guides.

After visiting the house museum, guests can continue their journey through the Museum About the Man to discover more about Jim Thompson’s life.

Drawn from the archives of The James H.W. Thompson Foundation, “The Man Himself” is an exhibition that highlights the significant influences and critical milestones in Thompson’s life, from his early years as an architect in the US to making his mark as the “King of Thai Silk”, and right up until his mysterious disappearance in 1967 whilst vacationing in Malaysia.

Visitors can then enter the Home Furnishing Exhibition which tells the story of the works and designs of creative minds as well as the company’s production capabilities that have continued to grow from strength to strength for the past sixty years.

After visiting all these museums and exhibits, guests can finish their journey at the Jim Thompson Iconic Store, where they will be greeted with an exciting retail experience.

“With a seamless journey that customers not only get to enjoy but also gain a deeper understanding of the Jim Thompson story, from the architectural wonder of the House on the Klong, the history behind the “King of Thai Silk”, to the creative design of the Iconic Store,” the company said.
