6 in 10 HK restaurants expect increased takeaway orders amidst summer heat

About 94% of restaurants view food delivery platforms as crucial.

Nearly 60% of Hong Kong restaurants are expecting an increase in demand for takeaway orders this summer due to the heat, according to Deliveroo's Q2 2024 Restaurant Confidence Index.

The survey, conducted from 1 July to 12, highlighted the growing reliance on food delivery services as consumers stay indoors to avoid high temperatures.

With the Paris 2024 Olympics also underway, 94% of restaurants view food delivery platforms as crucial, marking a 10% increase from the previous quarter.

About 33% of restaurants are also adding seasonal items to their menus, and 21% are adjusting their takeaway options to cater to the expected increase in orders.

“As the market evolves, we will continue to provide our full support to our restaurant partners with our insights and data, so we can help them capture the latest market trends and create menus and dish options that resonate with Hong Kong diners,” said Nick Price, general manager of Deliveroo Hong Kong.
