Alibaba invests $1b for cloud investment across APAC

It will launch data centres in the Philippines and Indonesia.

Alibaba Group’s cloud operator pledged to invest an initial $1b aiming to support talent and start-ups across the Asia Pacific region over the next three years, the company announced in a press release. The investment is the largest by Alibaba Group in its current financial year.

It also said it would launch its first data center in the Philippines by the end of this year, build an innovation center in Malaysia, and unveil its third data center in Indonesia.

“Low latency is critical across Southeast Asia where the digital infrastructure is nascent, but where policymakers are keen to see greater economic and financial inclusion that internet connections offer their citizens,” the company said.
