Deliveroo invests in upskilling riders

It allotted over $100,000 to provide upskilling opportunities to the riders.

Food delivery platform Deliveroo Hong Kong has rolled out around $100,000 (HK$1m) for the upskilling of its riders through a partnership with the Vocational Training Council.

In a statement, Deliveroo said the riders can enrol in a three-day business course which covers the areas of management, communications, marketing, and entrepreneurship to provide them opportunities for a more diverse career path.

They can also enrol in motorcycle repair courses focused on basic motorcycle mechanics, vehicle inspection and road safety.

“We know that many of our riders wish to gain additional skills and knowledge in other areas, and we’re here to support them. In addition, through the motorcycle repair course, we hope to see riders get a better understanding of their engines and enjoy the feeling that can come from being able to repair their own bikes,” said Deliveroo Hong Kong General Manager Andrew Hui.

“Through offering business and mechanic courses, we believe we’ve found a unique balance of both book smarts and street smarts, enabling our fleet to take on challenges that impact their lives on a day-to-day basis. Through these two unique initiatives we hope to help our riders pursue their career goals and dreams,” he added.

These two courses are an addition to the company’s existing over 700 OpenClassroom courses.
