DFI Retail Group launches EV for Hong Kong deliveries

The use of the electric truck will save over 264,000 litres of diesel.

DFI Retail Group has deployed the very first European-made 24-tonne electric truck for the delivery services of Wellcome Supermarket over its robust Hong Kong network, with a plan for a second one later this year.

Through this move, Wellcome becomes the first retail company in Hong Kong to adopt electric vehicles. It also marks a crucial step in DFI’s sustainable initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by half of 2030 and reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The use of the electric truck is estimated to save over 264,000 litres of diesel for a decade, compared to traditional trucks – the equivalent of around 538 tonnes of carbon emissions and the annual carbon absorption of around 24,710 trees. And it aims to contribute to lessening air and noise pollution.

“By introducing the first 24-ton electric truck in Hong Kong through our smart transport solutions partner, Scania, we have achieved a new milestone in our green logistics. We will continue to evaluate the commercial viability of electric trucks and explore the prospects of fleet electrification to build a green supply chain,” Michael Haas, Supply Chain Director of DFI Retail Group, said.

The Group has also deployed the first 26-tonne electric truck in Taiwan for its local IKEA operations.
