Harbin is China's most popular destination for retail, travel
The winter season in the city experienced a 100 times growth in travel and shopping.
Harbin, the capital of the northeast China province Heilongjiang, has been touted as a major destination for travel and retail with rising tourist visitations and online purchases, a report said.
According to the findings from JD.com, the winter season saw searches for Harbin travel and shopping skyrocket, with a year-on-year (YoY) growth surpassing 100 times in the past week.
The rising demand for Harbin specialties and shipments has fueled the city’s tourism and consumption growth. The local delicacy Harbin Red Sausage was seen as the top souvenir choice for tourists, with average daily shipment volume in early January reaching nearly fourfold higher than in December.
To support the demand, JD Logistics has set up service points at major locations, including Harbin Airports. These hubs guarantee seamless delivery services for a top-notch visitor experience.

Harbin has also seen an increase in sales of winter apparel, with items like down jackets, snow boots, and thermal underwear seeing demand in cities like Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Shanghai.
Tall snow boots saw a 206% YoY growth. Padded cotton caps and thickened long down jackets saw sales by 158% and 134%, respectively. Travel gear has seen a significant growth of 98% YoY with large suitcases and travel backpacks.
