Lazada launches sustainability training to Indonesian retailers
Lazada's logistics business unit invited over 30 retailers for the six-month course.
E-commerce leader Lazada has extended its support for more sustainable operations for MSMEs in Indonesia through specialized training for local online sellers about sustainability.
The programme, titled the Indonesia Sustainable Seller Acceleration Camp 2023, invited 30 Indonesian sellers and retailers to a six-month course and learn about the concepts, impacts, and effectivity of sustainability in the growing online market.
During the training, the International Trade Council will educate retailers on the concept of sustainability and effective measurement of the impact of sustainability.
Kopernik will provide coaching and supervision to ensure that the participants fully understand how to operate their business with a mission towards sustainability.
Aside from that, Modalku will also provide education and access to financing for business owners who are considering operating a sustainable business.
“We will continue to develop our programmes and collaborate with strategic partners to provide education and coaching for local business owners that wish to start and conduct a more sustainable operation, with the hope of building a digital economy ecosystem that contributes toward Indonesia’s growth,” Phillipe Auberger, Chief Logistics Officer of Lazada Indonesia, stated.

The camp served as a response from Lazada Indonesia to the growing environmental issues in the region, as highlighted in the ASEAN Regional Action Plan for Combating Marine Debris in the ASEAN Member States 2021 - 2025 Report. It indicated that SEA nations produced more than 31 million tons of plastic waste each year.
In 2022, Indonesia accumulated 12.54 million tons of plastic waste, with the number projected to grow every year. The report only attracted more awareness and urgency from Indonesian consumers, mostly millennials and Gen Z’s, with 56.2% of survey respondents relying more on environment-friendly items.
The Indonesia Sustainable Seller Acceleration Camp 2023 is the latest initiative by Lazada Group’s Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) framework, Lazada Sustainability Academy (LSA).
