Nine in 10 Malaysians prefer shopping online: report

This is despite the reopening of physical stores. 

Nine in ten Malaysian consumers were found to still prefer shopping online than in physical stores despite the reopening of the economy, a report found. 

In a report that surveyed 3,300 buyers and 2,100 sellers in Malaysia, Shopee found that more than half of shoppers have adopted online shopping more permanently. 

Of which, 21% say online shopping is now a habit, 17% say it is easier to find available stocks online, whilst 14% say some product choices are more accessible online that offline in their specific location.

Moreover, 43$ of shoppers now value shopping online as it allows them to compare prices amidst inflation. 

“It's important for business owners to understand that Malaysian shoppers do have motivations beyond price for shopping online,” Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing Campaigns at Shopee Malaysia, said.  

“They can create more loyalty and engagement simply by matching their offerings and content with buyer values.” 

Shopee learned that not all shoppers are after discounts and vouchers. Around 40% of then prefer online shopping due to “convenience and flexibility,” 17% prefer Shopee Guarantee to ensure safe transactions, and 10% make use of the reviews of other customers.
