Tmall rolls out coupons for green home appliances

The company has partnered with brands to trade in their old products.

Alibaba’s business-to-consumer online marketplace Tmall has offered $45.97m (RMB310m) worth of shopping coupons, seeking to encourage spending on eco-friendly home appliances, the company said in a news release.

The online penetration rate of home appliances on Tmall grew to 52.9% in 2021, according to the platform’s report, the company said.

“On Tmall, over 60% of home-appliance merchants offer energy-efficient choices for consumers,” said Tmall vice president Yang Guang in a statement.

Tmall has partnered with brands including Midea and Siemens, Hisense, and Bosch for consumers to trade in their old products.
