It aims to support local artisans in collaboration with the Manipur government.

Amazon India has launched an emporium with the government of Manipur, aiming to support over 300,000 artisans and weavers across the state, the company said in a press release.

The company said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL), a state-owned enterprise, launching the “Panthoibi Emporium” on its marketplace, under the Amazon Karigar program.

The emporium offers various products from artisans in Manipur, such as Kauna Crafts - Water Reed, Manipuri Rani Phee and food items like black rice, forest forage teas, geographical indication (GI) tagged chili, and GI tagged lemon and oranges.

Meanwhile, sellers part of the emporium are offered benefits such as personalized training for a quick start, increased customer visibility, and dedicated marketing support among others.

Since the launch of the Amazon Karigar program in 2016, Amazon India has onboarded more than 3,700 master weavers, co-operatives, artisans, and regional APEX bodies to sell on Amazon’s website.

Amazon.in has also collaborated with 30 government emporiums and 7 government bodies to showcase authentic crafts.
