Amazon to develop 60 MW solar project in South Korea

This will support its target to reach net-zero carbon by 2040.

Amazon is investing in its first renewable energy project in South Korea with an estimated 60-megawatt capacity.

In a statement, Amazon said the project can produce 81,211 megawatt hours of clean energy that can supply power to 25,000 households annually.

“This new solar project in South Korea will help Amazon move closer to achieving its goal of powering our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025, while also building on our commitment to offer our customers a more sustainable digital transformation,” said Kee Ho Ham, country manager of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Korea.

The project, a result of the long-term corporate power purchase agreement between Amazon and energy firm SK E&S, will create around 2,400 job opportunities during construction.

Amazon commits to take up the electricity produced from the project.

The e-commerce platform aims to reach net-zero carbon by 2040 and power its operations using renewable energy by 2025.
