JD.com appoints company president Lei Xu as CEO

Outgoing CEO Richard Liu will continue focusing on the company’s long-term strategies.

JD.com’s president Lei Xu has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company to succeed Richard Liu and will join its board of directors as an executive director, the company said in a press release.

Liu will remain as the chairman of the board and continue to focus on guiding the company’s long-term strategies, mentoring younger management, and contributing to the revitalization of rural areas, the company said.

Xu has been with JD.com for over a decade. In his earlier role, he was in charge of the operation and collaborative development of various business units of the company.

The company attributed his leadership to its success in “navigating the evolving external environment with resilient performance, whilst maintaining strategic focus and continued to create value for users and business partners.”

Prior to that, Xu held various senior roles in the company, including CEO of JD Retail, Chief Marketing Officer of JD.com, head of JD Wireless and head of marketing department. He also established JD’s marketing and public relations system and the platform operation system.
