CU's first Malaysian store snagged over 11,000 customers in 10 days

All of its top five bestsellers were Korean products.

The Korean Wave is sweeping over Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur, with CU Centerpoint’s first franchise in the country visited by more than 11,000 local consumers in the last 10 days, Korea Bizwire reported.

This came despite quarantine measures that limited the store’s operating hours to 8AM-10PM, with only 30 customers permitted at a time. Korea Bizwire attributed this to a local demand for experiencing Korean culture, at a time when overseas travel is difficult.

In particular, all of the top five bestsellers at CU Centerpoint during the period were Korean products, including tteokbokki, a popular Korean snack made from rice cakes and red chili pepper sauce, which ranked first.

More than one third of total sales at CU Centerpoint consisted of instant food products from South Korea.
