Malaysia's online shopping festival returns
#MYCYBERSALE, Malaysia’s online sale event, is back from October 9 to 13 with deals and discounts for a wide range of products. Shoppers can visit www.mycybersale.my and online marketplaces such as Lazada and Zalora to enjoy the offerings.
The annual event is a national initiative by the government of Malaysia since 2014 to boost the adoption of e-commerce amongst small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), micro enterprises and marketplaces.
Chairman of the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) Chin Chee Seong announced #MYCYBERSALE 2017 has made its way into the Malaysia Book of Records for the most number of online merchants in an online sale event as 1,000 merchants are participating this year, compared to 600 merchants in the 2016 edition and 280 participants in 2014.
Its gross merchandise value (GMV) also grew from RM67 million (USD16 million) in 2014 to RM211 million in 2016. This year’s GMV target has been set at RM300 million.
Over 16,600 foreign buyers made purchases from #MYCYBERSALE 2016 and the numbers are expected to be even higher this year. Shoppers beyond Malaysia can join the event as more than 480 online merchants also ship overseas orders in over 20 retail categories such as fashion wear; health and beauty products; baby and kids; and electronics. These countries include Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Hong Kong.
This year’s #MYCYBERSALE is supported by 18 sponsors (such as Commerce.Asia and global brands such as Mastercard, Lazada, SF Express, 11Street, iPay88, LWE and Fusionex) as well as over 90 partners including Maybank, Telekom Malaysia and Celcom.
“As in previous years, a comprehensive and robust infrastructure has been put in place to ensure all transactions are safe, secured and processed speedily to ensure customer satisfaction,” Chin assured. He added this was made possible through partnerships with logistics and fulfilment partners, payment gateway partners, banks, media partners, trade chambers and associations, marketplace providers, and major local and global brands.
