Philippines' Shakey's Pizza to open 30 outlets in 2021

The company will also unveil kitchen extensions during the year.

Philippines-based restaurant Shakey’s Pizza is set to open 15 new Shakey’s outlets and 15 new Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken outlets in 2021 to strengthen its visibility in the second and third-tier cities outside Metro Manila, a bourse filing revealed.

The company is looking to open smaller store formats with reduced investment requirements relative to its traditional brick-and-mortar stores. This ensures payback periods are kept short and return on capital remains high, the company said.

At the same time, it is looking to build locations that have both the Shakey’s and Peri brands to maximise its existing asset base. Shakey’s will also be unveiling a number of so-called ghost kitchens or kitchen extensions to further strengthen its presence in delivery.

In 2020, the company ended with 245 Shakey’s restaurants—three of which were located abroad—and 34 Peri outlets all located in the Philippines.
