SG entrepreneur carves new market

Years of working on her retail entrepreneurial business, Poetree Creations, has given Jessie Wong a hard-nosed understanding of what modern consumers appreciate in a product.

“Asian consumers are very practical and savvy. They look for value in their purchases. They also desire quality and authentic, not mass-produced, products,” said Wong.

Hence her latest retail venture – services in scent art design and production. It is a business of combining the creative talents of a master perfumer and artistes working with ceramics, glass gem and crystal glass to create objects that people desire, like home fragrance diffusers and accessories that are at once beautiful art pieces and provide a means for uplifting moods and emotions with specially designed scents.

Poetree Creations has marked its debut into scent design with a trio of fragrances named “Ode to Love”, “Ode to Hope” and “Ode to Joy”. The fragrances are designed by Singapore master perfumer Martin Koh based in London, and are presented in exclusive glass art creations by glass artist Florence Ng and charming ceramic olives and hearts fragrance accessories by sculpture artist Min Chen.

“Poetree Creations (www.poetreeinbloom.com) is the first and only outfit in Singapore to offer scent art design and production for corporations and special commissions. We feel that while the fragrance industry has advanced beyond infant stages, the public remains largely unaware of scent’s latent qualities. Scent is so relevant to business, home and personal life that its nature must be fully explored and embraced,” enthused Wong.

Koh, who has created winning fragrances for a wide range of personal care and homecare products that have touched the lives of billions of people, fully agrees. “Perfumes and fragrances is often an integral part of a product, even though it is not visible.

“There is a craft to making perfumes and scents. A home fragrance, for example, has to be designed in such a way that it diffuses slowly into the atmosphere and does not stay at the base of the vessel.”

Koh said he particularly enjoyed the collaboration among the Singapore artistes for the Poetree Ode Collection because there was mutual creative inspiration – he had been inspired by the exquisite glass art creations and ceramic pieces to come up with the different perfumery notes of The Ode Collection, and his signature scents had also inspired their works.
