Starbucks expands Greener Store concept in Shanghai

It is planning to expand the concept further to Japan.

Starbucks is opening its first sustainability-themed Greener Store outside of North America in Shanghai with a focus on circularity, as part of the multinational coffeehouse chain’s plans to expand the concept in its 50th anniversary, a press release revealed.

The Shanghai Greener Store has been designed and built to reduce waste, repurpose goods, and serve as a platform for future innovation. It offers an experiential experience that immerses customers in Starbucks’ sustainability commitments.

The company is looking to expand the concept in other countries across the globe, including Japan.

Starbucks’ Greener Store Framework was co-developed with World Wildlife Fund in 2018, aiming to accelerate the company’s transformation towards lower-impact stores and reduce carbon emissions, water usage, and landfill waste. The company has more than 2,300 Greener Stores in the U.S. and Canada.
