Last month, The Straits Times reported that UnionPay, a leading global payment network, is the new social card for e Great Singapore Sale (GSS) 2016. In a new partnership deal signed with the Singapore Retailers Association (SRA), UnionPay International (UPI) will be working closely with retailers across the island to oer a range of exclusive offers, rewards and privileges to UnionPay cardholders, as well as new shopping experiences to local consumers and visiting tourists during the GSS period from June 3-August 14.

As the social card of GSS 2016, UnionPay will continue to support SRA’s popular GSS Daily Rewards promotion. Consumers who shop during the GSS 2016 period can use their receipts to enter the GSS Daily Rewards promotion for a chance to win the daily rewards. UnionPay cardholders will also stand to win additional rewards when they shop with their UnionPay cards during the GSS 2016 period.

“We are very excited to be sponsoring The Great Singapore Sale 2016 — the biggest sale event of the year,” said Wenhui Yang, general manager of UPI Southeast  Asia.“UnionPay sees the GSS 2016 as a good platform for us to connect with shoppers and retailers, and to understand their needs for us to serve them better.”

Yang added that Singaporeans often say, “shop and eat”. “Besides dining, shopping is the national pasttime for Singaporeans. We could not have thought of a better way to increase our brand relevance to local consumers and businesses alike,” he said. “We hope that this will mark the start of a successful partnership with SRA, and we look forward to working  closely with them to provide local and overseas shoppers with new and improved experiences to heighten their enjoyment of the GSS this year.”

UPI focuses on supporting the growth of UnionPay’s global payments business. With an acceptance footprint covering 157 countries and regions globally, UnionPay says it serves the world’s largest cardholder base by providing quality, cost-effective and secure payment services to over 5.4 billion cardholders worldwide.

In Singapore, UnionPay enables efficient and cost-effective payment services that are tailored to the needs of local businesses and consumers. UnionPay cards are accepted at more than 80% of retail, lifestyle and F&B establishments locally, as well as at almost all automated teller machines (ATMs) across the island.

Said Anthony Gan, executive  director, SRA: “Our partnership with UnionPay for the GSS 2016 reflects SRA’s ongoing commitment to deliver additional value to both consumers and merchants.
