AEON and Ocado to build third customer fulfilment centre in Japan

AEON will integrate Ocado's latest technologies, including On-Grid Robotic Pick (OGRP).

AEON and Ocado have announced the construction of a third customer fulfilment centre (CFC) in Kuki-Miyashiro, Saitama Prefecture.

The new facility is set to become operational in 2027, followed by the opening of a second CFC in Hachioji.

AEON will integrate the latest Ocado technologies across all live operations. This upgrade includes the implementation of On-Grid Robotic Pick (OGRP) technology, aimed at significantly enhancing labour productivity.

The advanced tech will enable AEON to reduce operational costs and tackle the long-term issue of labour availability in Japan.

“As demonstrated by the state-of-the-art CFC live in Honda, Ocado is helping AEON NEXT to provide a seamless online grocery experience to customers across Tokyo. We can’t wait to bring this service to even more customers in the years to come,” said Tim Steiner, CEO of Ocado Group.
