Aeon to install solar power systems in Indonesian mall

The solar panels in Aeon Mall BSD City will produce 1,161 megawatts per hour.

Aeon Mall Co., Ltd. has formed a strategic partnership with Sojitz Corporation, via Sojitz equity method affiliate PT Surya Nippon Nusantara, for the installation of a rooftop solar power system at Aeon Mall BSD City.

The solar panels will cover an area of over 4,244 square metres, projecting to generate an annual output of 1,161 megawatts per hour (MWh) and aiming to cut emissions by around 712 tonnes.

Also under the partnership, both Aeon and Sojitz have started installation of a similar power generation system at the new Aeon Mall Deltamas facility, the upcoming fifth location of Aeon Mall in Indonesia.

The solar power project is one of the initiatives under Aeon’s Decarbonisation Vision 2050. Aeon is enforcing an energy transition to carbon dioxide-free electricity by 2025 and shifting to local production and local consumption models through power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The Japanese retailer sets this transition to 100% energy self-sufficiency and leveraging from its directly managed mall facilities in Japan by 2040.

Aeon operates four malls in Indonesia.
