Costco completes purchase in 45% stake in Taiwan business

The company operates 14 warehouses in Taiwan.

American membership-only retail chain Costco now indirectly owns its entire joint-venture business in Taiwan after completing its purchase of a 45% minority interest in the company from its partners for $1.05b, the company said in a news release.

The purchase of Costco Taiwan is estimated to be one to one and one-half percent accretive to earnings per share, the company said.

Costco currently operates 833 warehouses, including 574 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 107 in Canada, 40 in Mexico, 31 in Japan, 29 in the United Kingdom, 16 in Korea, 14 in Taiwan, 13 in Australia, four in Spain, two each in France and China, and one in Iceland.

The company said it also operates e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Australia.
