The group aims to boost the recognition of quality eyewear and eye care solutions amongst Japanese consumers.

Global eyewear leader EssilorLuxottica has completed the acquisition of Washin Optical Co., Ltd., a major player in Japan's optical retail sector.

“The agreement represents an important step in shaping the vision care market in the region with the goal of growing the appreciation for quality eyewear and eyecare solutions among Japanese consumers and achieving new levels of customer service,” the group said in a statement.

Washin Optical, established by Toru Negishi in 1951, has a significant presence in Japan's Kanto region, including flagship stores in Tokyo's prime commercial areas like Ginza and Shinjuku.

Already operating around 70 retail locations under brands like Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Oliver Peoples, EssilorLuxottica aims to strengthen its position in the Japanese market.
