KFC India operator takes over Thailand operations

The acquisition involves over 274 KFC Thailand restaurants that employed over 4,500 workers.

KFC’s India operator Devyani International DMCC, a Devyani International Limited (DIL) subsidiary, has acquired the entire controlling interest of Restaurants Development Co., Ltd. (RD) Thailand in the KFC brand in the Southeast Asian nation.

Under the share purchase agreement, DIL will gain management of 274 KFC restaurants in Thailand, which employ over 4,500 workers.

This positions DIL as a major player in the growth of KFC in the emerging Thailand quick-service restaurant/limited-service restaurant (QSR/LSR) market. With a strong poultry market, DIL aims to widen its footprint in Thailand with an elevated customer experience.

This strategic acquisition is a collaboration with Singapore-based investment firm Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited, which is valued at over $285.87b (S$380b).

KFC Thailand is managed by Yum Restaurants International (Thailand) Co., Ltd, an affiliate of Yum Brands, Inc. Since its launch in 1994, it emerged as the largest QSR/LSR chain in Thailand.

The acquisition is projected to close by or before 31 March 2024.
