Starbucks launches first vending machine in Thailand

Vending machines have become more common amidst safe distancing concerns.

Starbucks launched its first and only self-service vending machine in Thailand, inside a gaming studio in a neighbourhood mall, Samyan Mitrtown, IGD reported.

The machine offers classic drinks like espresso, Americano, latte and caramel macchiato in hot or cold versions, as well as hot or iced chocolate. Drinks can also be further customized with an addition of syrups including caramel, vanilla and hazelnut flavours.

Prices start from $1.90 (THB60). Payment can be done via a QR code using e-wallets like Rabbit Line Pay or Thai mobile banking.

IGD noted a trend of vending machines becoming more common. 7-11 launched its first vending machine café at Aspire Sathorn condominium near Bang Wang BTS in June. FamilyMart had also launched a vending convenience store in April.

“The launch helped to support people working outside normal operating hours during the COVID-19 pandemic. As shoppers are more concerned about safe distancing in stores, more vending machines may be made available to support their needs for convenient products in Thailand,” IGD’s senior retail analyst Soo-Eng Tan said.
