Tmall hosts week-long sales campaign for camping items

The company expects a surge in demand for travel gear in the mid-autumn festival.

Alibaba’s business-to-consumer platform, Tmall, hosted a week-long online-to-offline festival promoting camping items, which has proven to be a fast-growing category on the shopping app, the company announced in a news release.

The platform launched the online sales campaign on top of its offline event in China’s Anji County, known as a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.

Tmall was expecting a surge in demand for travelling gear this upcoming mid-autumn festival and Golden Week holidays if the current wave of infections eases.

Sales of camping and outdoor gear, in particular, are expected to see rapid growth as the lifestyle trend continues to take hold amongst Chinese consumers, whose willingness to go camping almost quadrupled last year, according to the company.
