How Shopee prevents IP infringements, counterfeits

It blocked the sale of over 33 million suspected IP infringement listings.

E-commerce platform Shopee employs a three-pronged strategy to ensure that it will stop intellectual property (IP) infringements and counterfeits which includes built-in measures, brand support, and community awareness and industry engagement, stopping over 33 million listings of suspected IP infringements.

In its first-ever Annual Brand Protection Report, Shopee said that for its built-in measures, it uses technology-enabled solutions to protect the platform such as the Shopee Brand IP Portal which streamlines the process to help rights holders address IP concerns.

Shopee has prevented the sale of more than 33 million listings of suspected IP infringements and suspended 1.4 times more seller accounts due to IP rights violations.

The e-commerce platform is also reinforcing its brand partnerships and community collaboration, engaging with over 300 brands in its brand protection efforts.

As IP rights issues are an industry-wide problem, Shopee worked with various sectors to address IP rights infringement such as the Pharmaceutical Security Institute, the Southeast Asia eCommerce Anti-Counterfeiting Working Group, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, EuroCham Singapore, JETRO and Interpol.
