Meta to halt Facebook live shopping events

This will take effect on 1 October.

Meta announced users will no longer be able to host Facebook Live Shopping events, starting 1 October. 

Live events may still be broadcast over Facebook Live, but users will not be allowed to create a product playlist or tag products in their live videos.

“As consumers’ viewing behaviors are shifting to short-form video, we are shifting our focus to Reels on Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s short-form video product,” the company said in a statement. 

It noted users may try to reach and engage through Reels and Reels ads on Facebook and Instagram, where they can tag products. 

“If you have a shop with checkout and want to host Live Shopping events on Instagram, you can set up Live Shopping on Instagram,” Meta said.
